The Local Area
In Allariz itself you can find a wide range of cultural and sporting activities as well as numerous restaurants, bars and cafes.
There are several museums. The hill in the town was an old neolithic settlement and from the top there are great views over the countryside. The cobbled streets, the several churches, the clothing outlet shops, the park by the river and the festival gardens mean that there is always plenty to do and see in Allariz itself.
Nearby you can visit the hilltop village of Santa Marina with its legends, beautiful church and partly excavated roman settlement.
O Rexo by the river with its open air art gallery and there are plent of walking trails through the forests of oak and chestnut and along the river side in an area full of history.
From Allariz it is easy to explore the south of Galicia and Northern Portugal, distances are short and the places are well connected.
We are just twenty minutes from Ourense with its hot water pools; 45 minutes from the stunning wine area of the river canyons of the Ribeira Sacra and an hour from Santiago de Compostela (the end point of the St James Way walk, now an Unesco world heritage site with the famous cathedral with the tomb of the apostle Saint James) and an hour from Vigo and the beaches of the Cies Islands.
